Onboarding is what we call our introductory course that will teach you many of the skills and tools you will need here at PALCS. You will need to open a web browser (we recommend Google Chrome).
Navigate to www.palcschool.org . There you will be met with a login screen. Enter your student's username and password and click "Login."
This will take you to what we call the "PALCS School Lobby" which is the main hub for everything you will need at PALCS. Click on the "My courses" button on the left side of the screen (this will display all of the courses your student is enrolled in). Click on the one that says "Get on board" and it will open up a new window.
This will take you to Canvas, the learning management system that we use at PALCS. When you first visit Canvas it will take you to this "Dashboard" screen that display all the courses you are enrolled in. (If you are lost/don't see this screen you can click the "Dashboard" icon at the left side of the screen to navigate back to here.)
Click on the "Onboarding"/"Getting on Board" card/icon (if you are in a different grade your image / text may be different but you should have something similar.) Clicking on that card will take you to the "Home" page of the course. Click on the "Modules" link on the left side of the screen.
This is the "Modules" screen that shows all the assignments / sections for the course. To begin, click on the "Start Here" link and it will take you to the first assignment. (If you notice, the other assignments will be greyed out. Most of the time Canvas courses MUST be completed in order, so if you don't have access to an assignment make sure to check that you've done everything previously.)
Each section has lots of information (text, videos, etc.) make sure to go through each page carefully by scrolling down to see everything.
At the bottom right of the page will normally be a "Next" button that will take you to the next section.
This course is designed to teach you the basics of Canvas all the other tools/resources we use here at PALCS. We HIGHLY recommend going through this course first BEFORE attempting other assignments as this will give you the basic understanding of how to complete your work and assignments.
